Ben heeft een levenslange passie voor zowel kunst als wetenschap. Als nieuwsgierige peuter ontdekte hij al dat vloertegels barsten als je er hard genoeg met een houten hamertje op slaat. Op zijn achtste startte hij met theaterlessen, die tot zijn achttiende zijn veilige haven zouden blijven, en op school koos hij voor wetenschappen en wiskunde met muziekles erbovenop. Aan de universiteit studeerde hij eerst Engels en theaterwetenschappen, om nadien verder te gaan met een master en doctoraat computerlinguïstiek — met improvisatietheater als vaste metgezel onderweg. Jarenlang schipperde hij zo tussen kunst en wetenschap, tot hij beide uiteindelijk samenbracht in zijn eigen bedrijf ERLNMYR, waar wetenschap het podium krijgt dat het verdient. Die veelzijdigheid zie je vandaag nog steeds terug in alles wat hij doet, als docent, acteur en presentator. Hieronder schetsen we zijn achtergrond in zowel improvisatie als wetenschap.Ben has a lifelong passion for both the arts and the sciences. As an inquisitive toddler, he discovered that floor tiles crack if you hit them hard enough with a wooden hammer. At eight he started theatre classes, which remained his safe haven until he was eighteen, while at school he studied science and mathematics and took up music lessons on the side. At university he studied English and theatre, only to switch to a master's and PhD in computational linguistics — with improvisational theatre as a constant companion along the way. For years he went back and forth between art and science, until he finally brought the two together in his own company, ERLNMYR, where science gets the stage it deserves. You can still see that versatility today in everything he does, as a teacher, performer and presenter. Below you'll find his background in both improvisation and science.
